PAPYRUS Pr evention of Young Suicide

We're delighted to announce that £12,920.00 was raised at the 2019 IPC Annual Conference in support of PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. Thanks to all delegates for their generosity in supporting this worthy cause.

The International Parking Community (IPC) is proud to announce UK national charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide as its sponsored charity for the 2019 IPC Annual Conference & Gala Dinner.

Suicide is the main cause of death of all young people under the age of 35. The latest annual statistics reveal over 1,600 young people between the ages of 10 and 35 died as a result of suicide, over 200 were schoolchildren and 85 were graduates.

Ged Flynn, Chief Executive of PAPYRUS commented: “It is great that the IPC, an organisation that the public would not normally associate with young peoples’ mental health, is being so proactive in its support of our work with young people.”

The IPC’s Chief Executive, Will Hurley, said: “PAPYRUS will be conducting an awareness session at our 2019 Annual Conference in October and we encourage all our members and conference delegates to support this initiative.”

Mr Flynn continued “Huge thanks to the IPC for its support, we rely heavily on our fundraising partners to extend our reach to vulnerable young people and those worried about them.”

“We applaud the highly responsible attitude demonstrated by the IPC’s management and we are proud to be supporting their initiative. We know only too well that large car parks in particular are places where vulnerable young people choose to go when they are struggling between life and death. Intervention is vital to save these lives. Equally important is the wellbeing and resilience of car park staff who may unwittingly find themselves in a position to try and prevent a possible suicide attempt.”

PAPYRUS believes that many suicides are preventable. The charity provides practical advice, support to young people and others concerned that a young person may be at risk of taking their own life.
